Accelerating healthcare automation

20.03.2023

Being closely involved in various healthcare projects, we keep abreast of the new trends in this industry and observe many changes happening lately. One of those is automation in healthcare. This entails utilizing machines and artificial intelligence to manage hospital processes, including appointment scheduling, data storage, and patient privacy, resulting in better patient satisfaction.

Healthcare automation doesn’t necessarily mean putting robots in the interaction with patients who need swift psychological or physical treatment. However, it refers to reducing human intervention to save the workforce for a higher cause and using highly advanced systems to perform several activities in three main categories:

Robotic Process Automation
RPA mimics human behaviour in its actions, performing repeatable, routine activities in huge volumes like its human counterparts. These activities include setting appointments, putting incoming patients in queues, categorizing patients’ symptoms, and storing data. RPA, however, can only work with structured and digital data.

Rule-base Machine Learning
Robots can employ machine learning to conduct basic checks for patients. These procedures don’t include sensitive cases; they include temperature checks, symptom analysis, and task automation to assist the workforce.
These procedures were deemed crucial during the Covid-19 pandemic under the influx of cases. RPA uses rule-based automation to conduct tests, analyze, produce results, and store information.

AI Decision Making
This category implies using sophisticated software and robotics to think using artificial intelligence to make decisions. These computers use a large data set and machine learning from historical data to make informed decisions.

Advantages of healthcare automation
It may seem that machines can only benefit healthcare in administrative activities. However, that alone has potential outcomes in the longer term besides the following advantages.
